The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is the top in comparison with other pediatrics department in the NY region in NIH research funding. The division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the lab of Dr. Jordan Orange. The candidate in this role will work on a project to explore the molecular mechanisms of cytotoxicity in natural killer cell and how to exploit the mechanics to potentially optimize cytotoxic cell therapies. This project arises from our ongoing work delineating how lytic granule positioning may impact the efficiency and effectiveness of NK cell killing and how we might intentionally control the mechanics of lytic granules. Our lab studies molecular mechanisms and cell biology of natural killer cell cytotoxicity as well as how to exploit these to potentially improve cytotoxic cell therapies. This project arises from our longstanding work delineating the lytic immunological synapse and how lytic granule positioning may impact the efficiency and effectiveness of NK cell killing . We are presently pursuing how we might intentionally control the mechanics of lytic granules. Recent graduates as well as those who have already completed one post-doctoral fellowship are welcome to apply.
