Covid-19 cases in New York City are down 95% since the start of 2021 with the percentage of people testing positive for the disease now at 0.81%

Almost 8.4 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday. That is roughly equivalent to the total number of doses given in Virginia or North Carolina.

Since Jan. 1, new Covid-19 cases are down 95%, with the percentage of people testing positive for the disease now at 0.81%, according to city data.The 10-Point.PREVIEWStatewide, the weekly average percentage of people testing positive for Covid-19 is 0.60%, with 565 cases and 10 deaths reported in the most recent available data. Some 54% of all New Yorkers in the state have had one dose of vaccine, while 46% are fully vaccinated.

The number of people getting a vaccination in New York City has slowed considerably, down to an average of roughly 26,000 shots a day, from 65,000 a month ago and 88,000 two months ago. The percent of people vaccinated is highest in Manhattan, particularly in the Financial District, where 100% of adult residents living in ZIP Code 10004 have had at least one dose of vaccine, while 95% in the neighboring ZIP Code have had a dose. The percentage of residents vaccinated is lowest in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn, where 41% of adults have had one dose, and in the Queens community of Edgemere where 42% of adults have had at least one dose of vaccine.
