New Jersey drivers will soon have to pay more to enter New York City . Starting January 5th, tolls for entering New York via various bridges and tunnels will increase by $0.68. This new fee, known as the congestion pricing toll, will apply to drivers entering Manhattan 's Central Business District (CBD), which encompasses the area south of 60th Street in Manhattan . The toll varies depending on the time of day and whether a driver uses EZ-Pass, an electronic toll collection system.
During peak traffic hours, most cars with EZ-Pass will be charged $9 per day. Drivers without EZ-Pass will pay more, and commercial vehicles will be subject to differing rates. There are some exemptions, including emergency vehicles, school buses, and drivers with disabilities. Low-income drivers who pay the toll 10 times in a month can apply for a 50% discount
