Other performances include “Serenade” , and the program that opened N.Y.C.B.
The last ones, collected and published posthumously as the “Schwanengesang” , build on archetypes of Romantic passion: red roses, treetops rustling in the moonlight, Atlas bowed beneath a world of sorrows. The German tenor Jonas Kaufmann, who performs those works with his adept accompanist, Helmut Deutsch, is renowned for his gorgeous voice.
