Chisholm has seemingly been a lightning rod for criticism since he entered MLB in 2020. He plays with a flair and exuberant personality that is not often displayed by players seemingly beholden to a more buttoned-up old-school way of baseball. He’s also Black, an important distinction in a league that has seen itsChisholm said that the culture has changed drastically under manager Skip Schumaker, who was hired in 2023.
“It’s just, you know, you don’t want to upset your clubhouse or anything else. So he doesn’t have the trade value people think he does. Just the personality rubs people the wrong way.”
