The California Coastal Commission approves UCSD’s plan for a 542-square-foot platform, benches, picnic tables and parking

A new public overlook is coming to UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus in La Jolla following a vote of support from the California Coastal Commission during its meeting Sept. 12.

The platform will be supported by pier footings, with a small section resting on a concrete pad, according to the report. At its highest point, the platform base will be about six feet from the ground, with an approximately 3½-foot railing on the platform itself. However, because of the project’s potential effects on wildlife and Native American resources, the Coastal Commission’s approval came with several conditions.
