New body camera video is shedding light on a deadly encounter between law enforcement and a suspect in Pickaway County.

In a newly released video from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy can be heard repeatedly pleading with the suspect to put down a gun. The footage shows the suspect standing on the porch of a home while officers attempted to negotiate. According to the Ohio BCI, deputies from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office were joined by officers from the Ashville and South Bloomfield police departments. The video shows the officers trying to speak with the suspect for more than 10 minutes. Investigators say shots were fired after the suspect pointed a gun at officers. Body camera video shows that more than a dozen shots were fired during the encounter. No law enforcement officers were injured. The suspect died at the hospital; his name has not been released. Ohio BCI says a juvenile victim was treated for an injury that occurred before deputies arrived on scene, Irwin said.
