Ohio union petitions have increased by 226% from fiscal year 2021 to fiscal year 2024.

Members of the Teamsters, Utility Workers Union and Laborers Local 860 rallied for wage equality for Cleveland city workers in 2022. CLEVELAND, Ohio — Workers in Ohio and the rest of the United States increased their efforts to unionize in the last year, more than doubling union petitions with the National Labor Relations Board, according to data from the federal agency released earlier in the month.

For the Cleveland region, which spans about half of the state, 74 petitions were filed last year, more than triple the 23 in fiscal year 2021. Part of the reason for this was fallout from COVID-19, according to Tim Burga, president of Ohio C, the state branch of the national trade union center. But it also helped shift the landscape to where we are today.
