Pep Guardiola ’s side made history last season by becoming the first team to win the title four years in a row. The 2024/25 campaign will see them looking to extend that record to five years, but they are expected to be challenged again by Arsenal.
The Community Shield is usually a decent indicator of managers’ plans for the new season. With that in mind, here are the winners and losers for City from the game.After spending last season on loan with Sheffield United, McAtee will be looking to make an impact in the first team at the Etihad Stadium throughout the upcoming campaign. While his performance wasn’t perfect his introduction did add a bit of extra spark to the City performance for the final 25 minutes.One player who needs to play himself into form is Kalvin Phillips, but the fact that he didn’t make it off the bench is not a good sign for the former Leeds man.
It is unknown yet if the problem will rule him out of the season opener against Chelsea. But his absence will have let other players stake their claim for a place in the starting XI for that game, as well as Grealish missing out on vital minutes for fitness.Ortega and Ederson have shared the minutes in goal so far over pre-season. But Ederson got the nod for the Community Shield.
