The new eatery is in the Blakey Moor area of the town centre
A brand new Turkish restaurant is set to open in Blackburn – the first eatery as part of the £3.8m transformation of Blakey Moor.
They’re now looking to attract diners from across the North West with their quality offer with a view to expand across the region with more eateries. Sofra is based in a once-dilapidated building opposite King George's Hall.A spokesperson for Sofra said: "We’re doing something really exciting at Sofra with four talented Turkish chefs from different regions of the country offering a diverse and ever evolving menu.
The owners had been set to open a Smokin’ Ranch and Grill in the building which is also opposite Reel Cinema, but saw Sofra as a chance to offer a wider dining choice in Blackburn. The Blakey Moor area is undergoing a £3.8m transformation as part of a Townscape Heritage Project – part funded by Blackburn with Darwen Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund – with work underway to transform the neighbouring Terrace building.
Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, welcomed the news, saying: "After working hard for many years to bring our vision for the cultural quarter in Blakey Moor to life, this feels like a fantastic step in the right direction with the opening of the first new restaurant. Seeing these old, rundown buildings transformed is brilliant and I’d like to wish the owners of Sofra all the very best for the opening next week.
