Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley expressed dismay on Sunday at the allegations made against former President Donald Trump in special counsel Jack Smith's new superseding indictment in the classified documents case.
Trump faces 40 total counts in the Justice Department's classified documents case against him, which Smith said in May were related to"felony violations of our national security laws as well as participating in a conspiracy to obstruct justice.” Smith is separately investigating the former president over his handling of his 2020 election loss, and is reported to be considering charges in that case.
He initially faced 37 counts, though Smith added three additional charges this past week. The former president is now accused of attempting to delete security footage at his Mar-a-Lago property along with maintenance worker Carlos De Oliveira and his other co-defendant, Walt Nauta. Trump has slammed the charges as politically motivated.
