Norman Garza Jr. ’s to-do list got a lot longer in his first meeting overseeing a new commission charged with growing the state’s space economy, but he didn’t mind. The South Texas native whose path has taken him from agriculture to outer space as the first executive director of the Texas Space Commission said he knows there’s much to be done.

It puts him at the heart of a fast-growing Texas industry. Already, 1,800 aerospace companies provide more 150,000 jobs in the state, officials have said.
