The bonuses are being paid out in two annual installments and are contingent on working at least two years in Paterson.
A survey by Education Week in February 2022 found that teacher bonuses mostly ranged between $1,000 and $5,000 and were subsidized by pandemic-related federal relief funds. Paterson funded its $7,500 hiring bonuses using its allotment from federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funding.
As of Friday, 218 teachers had received the bonus, said Nancy Deering, a spokesperson for the school district.
