A new study finds that 2 in 5 female bosses think their workplace is sexist.

from the Young Women’s Trust, a U.K. based charity that supports and represents young women trapped in poverty, has published findings that 2 in 5 female bosses think their workplace is sexist.

This is translated into other statistics that show worrying attitudes when it comes to women’s professional progression. Almost 2 in 5 employers believe it is “harder for women to progress in [my] organization than men.” Broken down, 27% of the female employers questioned agreed with this statement, whereas only 11% of the male employers did.found that a staggering 80% of U.S. employees don’t trust their HR department—even at well-established firms such as Google, Apple and Amazon.

It would be pertinent at this stage for me to point out that I am not against HR departments—and it's to the detriment of the person that mistakes them for some sort of"agony aunt" system—but these stories of discontent came thick and fast. Uber is an excellent example of this. Until Susan Fowler blew the whistle on sexism and harassment at the company, complaints made to HR had been routinely swept under the carpet. Why? Because the truth remains that HR departments are ultimately in place to serve the interests of the company and build the brand, not to protect and serve the employees that work for it—and let’s not forget that these individuals are on the payroll, too.
