On Tuesday St. Bernards Hospital cut the ribbon on three new surgical suites. This $7 million project will let the hospital perform thousands of additional surgeries.
If you’ve ever made a trip to St Bernard’s Hospital for surgery, it will look a little different the next time you go. On Tuesday, they held the ribbon-cutting ceremony on a $7 million project.
“Today’s a very exciting day for first of all our community, second our patients, their families, and the entire region we serve," Michael Givens, the administrator for St. Bernards Medical Center, said. After years of planning and building, St. Bernards was able to cut the ribbon on three surgical suites Tuesday. Across its campuses, St. Bernards has the largest offering of beds and surgical options in the region. “It gives St. Bernards a capacity for 28 OR suites, so that’s monumental for us,” Connie Hill, vice president for surgical services, said.
One of the biggest capabilities of the new suites is their ability to house robots. This technology is revolutionizing surgery in northeast Arkansas. “Smaller incision, less area to heal, less chance of infection, and home quicker. So, it’s better for the patient all the way around and we are the largest robotics center in the state,” Hill said.
With the addition of the new rooms the number of additional surgeries St. Bernards should be able to perform is in the thousands. “We’re hoping we can increase our surgical volume anywhere from 250 to 350 cases a month," Hill said.Connect with Us:
