The new study, presented this month at the European Congress on Obesity in Venice, Italy, focused solely onan injectable medication that is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for weight loss for people with obesity or who are overweight with a comorbidity like high blood pressure. "We see that once the majority of the weight loss is accrued, you don't go back and start to increase in weight if you stay on the drug," Lange told Reuters.
Obesity has been associated with conditions like stroke and heart attack, hypertension, breathing difficulties, sleep apnea and an increased risk of early death.While long-term research has been done on GLP-1 medications and Type 2 diabetes, Ashton said there is still much research to be done on how the medications can be used long-term to help people maintain weight loss.
