Four invaluable and historic objects that tell the plight of a Scottish countess who narrowly avoided tragedy in the sinking of the Titanic will be put on display this month.
The story of a Scottish countess who escaped perishing on the Titanic will be revealed through a collection of mementos linked to the infamous ship.
Penned by Noel, Countess of Rothes, of Leslie House, on the outskirts of present-day Glenrothes, the letter was delivered to her husband Norman, the 19th Earl of Rothes. He is said to have been "anxiously awaiting her arrival in New York", where the couple had agreed to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
The four one-of-a-kind objects are part of the Leslie-Rothes collection, and have been granted permanent loan to the Glenrothes & Area Heritage Centre. They were provided by trustees of the Clan Leslie Charitable Trust. The exhibit will be put on in conjunction with the venue's play The Man Who Left The Titanic, which will be performed on September 9. All four objects will remain on display after the play, meaning those who miss it will still have a chance to visit the exhibition.
