SINGAPORE — Eligible firms will soon be able to temporarily hire foreign S Pass and work permit holders above the prevailing foreign worker ratio ceilings, should these firms contribute to the country’s economic priorities, or commit to hiring or training locals, for example.

SINGAPORE — Companies that are deemed to contribute to Singapore's economic priorities or that commit to hiring and training locals will soon be allowed to temporarily hire foreign S Pass and work permit holders beyond the prevailing foreign worker quotas.

Here are more details of the scheme, as announced by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Manpower on Tuesday :Companies have to abide by a foreign worker quota, or dependency ratio ceiling, which is determined by which sector they are inThe company gets to enjoy this higher quota for two years upon enrolment into M-SEPFirms can begin to apply for M-SEP on MOM's website on TuesdayMOM and MTI said M-SEP aims to support the growth of businesses that contribute to Singapore...

In the long term, they hope temporarily alleviating the manpower crunch for these companies will also help to create more jobs and training opportunities for SingaporeansFirst, firms have to participate in programmes or initiatives that are in line with Singapore's"key economic priorities" To fulfil this condition firms have to either participate in initiatives or fulfill economic criteria set up by economic agencies such as the Economic Development Board, Enterprise Singapore, the Infocomm Media Development Authority, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore or the Singapore Tourism Board
