Organisers say it will make a big difference
One of Nottingham's biggest events has announced a change that will affect its participants and drivers in Nottingham. Organisers of the Robin Hood Half Marathon have taken on runners’ feedback and have announced a change to the 2022 half marathon course, which will take place on Sunday, September 25.
Now in its 41st year, the event is predicted to welcome up to 10,000 runners to the half marathon and up to 2,000 runners to line up for the full marathon. According to the race's organisers the feedback from last year’s route was overwhelmingly positive but runners commented they did not like the switch back on Derby Road and that the top of Castle Road was a pinch point early in the race.
Acting on this feedback, the organisers have designed a new route to replace both of these elements, which will see runners’ using part of Maid Marian Way for the first time and a new loop inside the Nottingham University Jubilee Campus, whilst still retaining some of Nottingham’s favourite landmarks, including Nottingham Castle, The Park Estate, Trent Bridge and Wollaton Deer Park.
Judith Manson, Race Director of the Robin Hood Half Marathon, added: “We’ve really listened to our runners and we understand why they didn’t like the switch back on Derby Road or the tight turn before mile two on the half marathon route, so we’ve removed both. "These small changes will make a big difference and of course we’ve worked hard to ensure the route still captures the iconic sights of Nottingham, and builds on this extremely popular course. The route still includes the much-loved Victoria Embankment start and the Race Village finish so the atmosphere will be fantastic.” To find out more information about the event, visit: www.robinhoodhalfmarathon.co.
