Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Wednesday that U.S. President Donald Trump's auto tariffs are a “direct attack” on his country. The new prime minister, sworn in March 14, still hasn’t had a phone call with Trump.

Michelle Mann GENEVA- Construction of a $3 million roundabout began this week west of the Geneva County city of Samson at the intersection of State Road-52 at State Road-153, and County Road-5. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and reduced speed limit s during construction, cautioned Alabama Department of Transport ation Southeast Region Public Information Officer Brantley Kirk.

“ALDOT urges drivers to plan accordingly for delays and stay mindful of people and equipment in the work zone.” ALDOT awarded Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc. of Dothan the contract for the project as the lowest bidder meeting all requirements, Kirk said. ALDOT expects the project to be completed in Spring 2026. “Roundabouts have proven to be effective in enhancing road safety and reducing traffic congestion,” Kirk said. “According to the Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts typically result in a 35 percent decrease in all crashes, a 76 % reduction in injuries, and a more than 90 % decrease in fatalities.” People are also reading… Dale County The Geneva roundabout project is the second to two ALDOT projects in Wiregrass started this week. A resurfacing project in Dale County also began. Kirk said the resurfacing project in Dale County includes resurfacing and guardrail installation on US-231 from the Houston County line to County Road-63 northwest of Midland City. The approximately $2.6 million project was awarded to Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc., out of Dothan, who had the lowest bid that met the project requirements, Kirk said.
