A new road rage related bill will be going into effect on July 1 after two deadly road rage incidents occurred at the beginning of June.
It's been one year since a road rage crash killed two people in Eagle Mountain, the milestone coming on the heels of two recent Utah tragedies where road rage led to two deaths. KUTV
“It’s not something you think is ever going to happen to your family, and we are devastated obviously,” said Cyndi Brown, a family member of Sunday's Lehi road rage victim.“The state is handling the case, and in this case, the Utah County Attorney’s Office and the local law enforcement. They are investigating the case, and they will decide what charges are filed,” Skordas said.
He said the bill will help the state collect data on road rage and raise penalties in road rage cases.“I think another thing the bill does is, it provides funding for TV ads and education,” Weiler said.“It’s not like turning on a light switch,” Weiler said. “When the bill goes into effect it’s not going to fix everything, but it does put some new tools in the toolbox.”
Weiler said this is one of the only road rage-related pieces of legislation that he was aware of here in Utah.“I was very saddened to hear of the recent tragic road rage incidents in Utah and Davis Counties. I am hopeful that the implementation of the road rage statute July 1 and the upcoming public information campaign that the department of public safety is launching soon will help reduce these completely preventable unnecessary horrible tragedies.
