Urban Hill, the Post District's first big tenant, is open and serving wood-fired bison steaks, fine wines and raw oysters.

It’s also the first business to open in the Post District. Right now, that means diners will catch glimpses of Tyvek wrap, cranes and hard hats. Eventually, it’s meant to be a bustling new neighborhood with 13 acres of offices, apartments, shops, restaurants and bars — including the newest location of Level Crossing Brewery.

“And our kitchen remains fully open,” he said. “All of our restaurants have kitchens that are open — we’re big believers in letting the guests get a look at what it takes to cook all of this food.” “We take all the ashes out every night, and put them in the back and they collect them on a weekly basis,” Kirchheimer said. “Local wood is what we use. It’s a lot of fun. People here feel like they’re at a party table, because they’re right in the action. You get to see the chefs at work.”

The other private dining room — which also holds 50 people — was designed to have more of a Parisian cafe feel, with accordion windows and light-colored tile floor. The menu also features items not cooked on the grill: Dill-seasoned latkes, a hat tip to David Kirscheimer’s Jewish heritage; and Urban Hill’s most popular dish, the beef tallow potato pavé.

And, true to their company’s name, dessert, with a menu developed by Zocco in tandem with Hearth and Hill pastry chef Jessie Rae Nakoneczny, including an affogato — in which vanilla ice cream is “drowned” with a shot of Publik Coffee Roaster’s espresso.
