A new study published in Science reveals a comprehensive record of Earth's surface temperature over the past 485 million years. The research, conducted by Emily Judd and colleagues at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, utilized data from climate models and geology to reconstruct Earth's climate history.

Judd is from the Department of Paleobiology at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. “This method was originally developed for weather forecasting,” said Judd. “Instead of using it to forecast future weather, here we’re using it to hindcast ancient climates.”
