Construction crews are working to make the dream of a new Prattville Kindergarten School a reality.
“It’s something that we can all point to as progress in our county, and quite frankly it gives our kindergarteners the best opportunity to be successful,” said Autauga County Schools Superintendent Lyman Woodfin.was built in the 1920s. Its dated infrastructure is hard to maintain. The superintendent sighted flooring issues.Crews are working to meet a July 2024 deadline. The superintendent says the goal is to have students in the building by the start of next school year.
“We’re shooting for the third to fourth week of July. Obviously that’s a close timeline to the start of school. But the way things are rolling right now, we look to be on track,” Woodfin said. When the school is complete, the superintendent says it will mark a new era for education in Autauga County. “This will be the last building that we can do with our current level of funding,” he said. “If we can increase our revenue somehow, someway, this could be the beginning of a bunch of different things that we do throughout our county.”
As for the old Prattville Kindergarten School building, school officials say they have no definite plans yet.Copyright 2023 WSFA. All rights reserved.
