Pet Sematary: Bloodlines offers a few chills and thrills but fails to capture the ingredients that made the original Stephen King adaptation so scary.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Pet Sematary: Bloodlines may arguably be a decent horror movie in its own right, but it lacks what made the original Stephen King adaptation so terrifying. Marking Lindsey Anderson Bee's directorial debut, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines serves as a prequel to 2019's Pet Sematary, the second movie adaptation of Stephen King's novel of the same name.
Since Stephen King never wrote a sequel or a prequel for Pet Sematary, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines takes a rather ambitious approach by expanding the author's original lore and bringing some backstory to the origins of the titular burial ground. Unfortunately, its story proves to be way less captivating and chilling than the original because it does not have one crucial ingredient that made the Stephen King story so great.
The idea behind Pet Sematary came to Stephen King after his son, Owen, nearly got hit by a speeding truck. However, after finishing the book, the author was so disturbed by what he had written that he avoided publishing it until a contractual obligation forced him to.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines Turns Stephen King's Story Into A Zombie Movie Pet Sematary: Bloodlines seemingly forgets that the original story's terrors do not come from showdowns between the living and the dead. Instead, they come from its heartbreaking portrayal of how grief towards losing a loved one can force someone to make unimaginable decisions.
