John Matuszak, special to cleveland.com.PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- At the historic Rider’s Inn in Painesville – known for its hospitality as well as its household haunts – two kindred spirits have found one another.
There is a lot of history to take in at the inn, which was built as a stagecoach stop along the Oregon Trail by William Rider. The inn was under a similar threat from possible developers when Crane, a former Willoughby judge, made a bid for the property that she said had been seized by federal drug agents.Alex, a nurse, has no experience in the hospitality business, but there are advantages that she can rely on, Crane said. “She has a wonderful partner, and she has me.”They stayed at the inn about a year and half ago, Alex remembered.
On Wednesday nights they are bringing back darts competitions, and Thursdays will be family game night.She is working on the menu, and will keep favorites such as pub cakes and potato leak soup, while adding homemade pizzas and Alfredo dishes.
