Former Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore joins a new team for the first time in his NFL career as the New Orleans Saints trade him to the Washington Commanders.

The former Ohio State cornerback is headed to the Washington Commanders, who agreed to a trade a few hours before the NFL’s trade deadline to acquire the four-time Pro Bowler from the New Orleans Saints.

The Commanders sent third-, fourth- and sixth-round draft picks to the Saints in exchange for Lattimore and a fifth-round pick.Lattimore goes to Washington after seven-and-a-half seasons with the Saints. A first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, Lattimore quickly established himself as one of the NFL’s top young cornerbacks, earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2017 and making four Pro Bowls in his first five NFL seasons.

He’s been plagued by injuries for the last few seasons, playing only seven games in 2022 and 10 games in 2023. He missed two games earlier this season with a hamstring injury. He’s performed well when he has been on the field, though, allowing just eight catches for 83 yards on 14 targets, according to Pro Football Focus, while recording two pass breakups.

Now, Lattimore leaves a team that‘s just 2-7 this season to go to a 7-2 team in Washington, where he’ll join his former Ohio State teammates Terry McLaurin, Noah Brown and Jalyn Holmes. The Saints, who have been known for their Buckeye-heavy rosters in recent years, still have three former Ohio State players in Chris Olave, Pete Werner and Chase Young.
