Republicans in the state submitted false Electoral College certificates declaring Trump the winner — though the fake electors added a caveat saying the certificates were submitted in case they were later recognized as duly elected, qualified electors.
Former Otero County commissioner and Cowboys for Trump cofounder Couy Griffin was barred last year from holding public office for engaging in insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
