Di Spotswood, one of eight people elected last month to the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania, says it is a 'continual fight' with the state government to negotiate land returns.

Eight new members of the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania have been elected to manage Aboriginal-owned land and negotiate land returns with the state government.

There are two members each for the north, north-west and south, and one each for truwana/Cape Barren Island and Flinders Island. "I am the one that's usually at the forefront of the political movement on the north-west coast, and I think that certainly has helped me to be elected this year," she said.

"The Aboriginal Lands Amendment Bill will not progress at this stage as we seek to gain consensus across the parliament and Aboriginal people," a government spokesperson said.
