NSTnation The new Melaka chief minister replacing Adly Zahari
It is learnt that the Melaka Parti Amanah Negara chairman would be replaced by a state assemblyman from Umno which commands the majority in the state assembly, under the Perikatan Nasional coalition which comprises Barisan Nasional and Parti Pribumi Malaysia Bersatu elected representatives.
Several names touted as the potential 12th Melaka chief minister candidate included Lendu state assemblyman Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali, who is the Melaka Umno liaison committee secretary. Sulaiman had served as state industry and trade committee deputy chairman when the state government was under the leadership of then chief minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron during the previous BN regime before the 14th general election.
Other names bandied as the next chief minister included Paya Rumput state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen of Bersatu.
