A water main line broke in Belleville, New Jersey, Tuesday morning, prompting officials in nearby Newark to warn residents they could be without water.
showed water flowing like a river. Another video showed a car that appeared to have been flipped and nearly submerged in water.
The City of Newark, meanwhile, was alerting residents that they may be experiencing"no water or low pressure." Residents were further advised to boil water until further notice. City officials later said they’d be going door to door to give out water. Mayor Ras J. Baraka said the water main break in Belleville affected water service in the North, West, and part of the South and Central Wards of Newark. He said a boil-water advisory remained in effect until further notice.
"The Department of Water and Sewer Utilities has been working diligently all day to get the break under control and restore full service," Baraka said."Because of this hard work, some residents have seen their water service restored and we are continuing to work until full restoration."
