A 34-year-old teacher in New Jersey has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a former student who lived in her home several years ago. Laura R. Caron, a former fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School No. 2, faces serious charges including aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The school district issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to student safety and their swift action in suspending Caron upon learning of the investigation.
A 34-year-old teacher from New Jersey has been charged with sexually assaulting a student who resided in her home several years ago. The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office stated that Laura R. Caron, of the Cape May Court House section of Middle Township, sexually assaulted a student born in 2005 between 2016 and 2020. Caron was a fifth grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School No. 2 in Cape May Court House prior to her suspension.
She faces charges of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. Caron was arrested on Wednesday and taken to the Cape May County jail. Jail records indicate the alleged offense occurred on January 1, 2018. In a statement to the community, district officials referred to the alleged victim as a former student. 'When the school district was first advised of the criminal investigation, Laura Caron was suspended, and removed from any contact with students, as we take allegations regarding employee misconduct seriously,' the Middle Township school district said. 'Our school district is committed to continuing to work in the best interest of our children and to provide an excellent education in a healthy, safe, and secure environment.' Caron, hired as a public employee in 2014, earns an annual salary of $64,512, according to state pension records.
