Gov. Phil Murphy's office has assembled a task force to scour for medications needed to combat the coronavirus epidemic in New Jersey, state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said Wednesday

On Wednesday, Murphy said the state’s total caseload was nearing 48,000 and, even as the growth rate on new positive cases slows, the number of coronavirus-related deaths is climbing sharply.“Fatalities that we’re announcing today were folks who were likely infected two or three weeks ago,” Murphy said during his briefing. “While it may be flattening, beginning to flatten, the fatalities are going up and, sadly, will continue to go up.

State officials are expecting that peak to arrive anywhere between April 19 and May 11, according to models Murphy presented during a briefing earlier this week. The state could see anywhere from 86,000 to 509,000 patients test positive, with total hospitalizations ranging between 9,000 and 36,000.
