The governor of New Jersey on Tuesday called for a ban on cell phones in K-12 public school classrooms statewide, drawing a connection between usage of the devices and declining mental health .

Honestly, is it any surprise that the rise in smartphone usage has coincided with a growing youth mental health crisis?" he added. "Every parent knows the damage that these devices can cause," the governor said. "Enough is enough. It is time for action." Schoo districts nationwide have already taken the topic into their own hands over the last year. The Los Angeles Unified School District's school board in Junea ban on student cell phone usage during the school day, raising concerns over "“increased stress, anxiety, depression, sleep issues, feelings of aggression, and suicidal thoughts.”
