A New Jersey man was fatally stabbed in front of his three young children while teaching them to ride bikes. Davon Holloman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and other offenses. The incident occurred on January 8th, and the victim, Jimmy Chase, later died from his injuries. The investigation is ongoing. A GoFundMe page has been created to support Chase's children.
A family in New Jersey experienced an unimaginable tragedy when a father was stabbed to death in front of his three young kids while he was teaching them how to ride their bikes. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced in a Facebook statement on Wednesday, January 28, that suspect Davon Holloman had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, third- and fourth-degree weapons offenses and three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities claimed that Holloman “was involved in a physical altercation” with victim Jimmy Chase on Thursday, January 8, around 5:20 p.m. Officials added that Chase, 40, was the father of Holloman’s girlfriend’s children. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an adult male in the street who appeared to have several stab wounds to the torso. Chase was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries the following morning. “Most of the altercation was captured on a cell phone video and his three small children can be seen trying to break up the fight,” the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said in the statement. Holloman is still in custody following his arrest. It’s not currently clear if he has entered a plea or retained legal representation. The investigation is ongoing as investigators work to uncover the events that led to Chase’s death. Police are asking that anyone with information to contact MCHTF Detective Ryan Minnick at 989-6406. Meanwhile, tips can also be submitted anonymously online. Following Chase’s death, his sister, Latoya Chase, set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money to pay for his funeral expenses and to go toward his children’s future and education. “On Thursday, January 8, 2026, my brother Jimmy Chase was tragically taken from us. While outside teaching his three sons how to ride their bikes, Jimmy was attacked and murdered in front of them by the boyfriend of their mother,” she wrote. “This senseless act has left our family devastated and his children without their loving father.” Latoya went on to call her brother “a good man” and said he “played a major role in our community.” She continued, “He was always there to lend a helping hand, and his kindness touched everyone who met him. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him, and the pain of his absence is immeasurable.” “Jimmy’s greatest joy was being a father, and he worked hard to provide a safe and loving environment for his boys,” Latoya said. After explaining why they were raising money, Latoya said that any contribution “will make a difference in lives as they navigate this difficult time.” “Thank you to everyone for supporting our family and for loving my brother,” she concluded. “We are truly grateful for the outpouring of love and kindness.” The GoFundMe profile added that Chase’s funeral service is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 31. The fundraiser goal was set to $11,000.
