New Jersey announces emergency permits for foreign doctors
An NYT report says a number of foreign nurses and doctors are prepared to assist in the Covid-19 fight, but travel restrictions and visa regulations are preventing them from working in US hospitals. – EPA pic, April 18, 2020.
NEW Jersey, the US state hardest hit by the coronavirus after its neighbour New York, yesterday announced that it will begin issuing temporary emergency permits to foreign-licensed physicians. “We’re now the FIRST state to begin fully tapping the tremendous wealth of international knowledge and experience to help us on our own front lines,” tweeted Governor Phil Murphy when making the announcement.
