The former Tuk Tuk restaurant at 41 Friar Lane in Nottingham city centre could soon be replaced by another eatery if Nottingham City Council approves recently submitted plans

A new restaurant could be set up in Nottingham to replace a venue which closed more than a year ago. .

Designs for signage at the currently vacant unit show the new restaurant would be named Akshaya. The prospective restaurateur Hari Velmurugan, who submitted the planning documents, said the cuisine served would be "Indian and South Indian". He explained the landlord of the property had given permission for the changes to be made in a lease agreement. The property was put up for lease in July 2022, after previous occupier Tuk Tuk closed.Documents from letting agent FHP described the unit as a part fitted restaurant with extensive glazed return frontage. "The property is a ground floor restaurant comprising of restaurant trading floor, bar area, kitchen with canopy/extraction and customer toilets," the agent added.

It said the rent payment would be around £35,000 per year. The planning application for the restaurant signage is currently pending consideration by Nottingham City Council.
