A new Lucky Supermarket outpost is in the works for San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood, as first reported by theThe proposed Lucky grocery store is anticipated to make home within Bayview Plaza at 3801 Third St. and replace the former Walgreens, which shuttered in 2019. Since the project is still within its preliminary phase, an opening date has yet to be announced.
“Lucky has recently signed a lease for a vibrant new grocery store in Bayview Plaza,” Bobby McDowell, vice president of store operations for Lucky California, told the outlet. “We are in the early stages of preparing for permitting and developing a plan for a Lucky store that will provide the community with convenient access to fresh, quality groceries.”
Earlier this month, Save Mart Supermarkets, the operator of Lucky Supermarkets in Northern California, submitted a planning application that was accepted by the San Francisco Planning Department on March 3. According to the project description, the building is expected to maintain its current exterior facade while adding a slew of interior updates that include replacing the main entrance, new freezers and coolers, lighting and product shelving, among other items that will cost about $850,000.
A Lucky Supermarket is anticipated to open in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood within Bayview Plaza.As the San Francisco Standard points out, the Bayview Lucky will also be on a smaller scale at 9,549 square feet compared to the average Lucky retail stores, which are typically on the 30,000 square foot scale. But the new addition will be an advantage to the neighborhood, where large-scale supermarkets are scarce.
