Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Oa

Oa is one of the core staples in Green Lantern lore, serving as one of the oldest planets in the DC Universe and as the homeworld and headquarters of the Guardians of the Universe, who administer the Green Lantern Corps.

Now, after 86 years, Oa is seeing a major overhaul, making it more critical to Lantern lore than ever before. DC’s March 11 releases have just dropped, and among them is Morgan Hampton, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, and Arif Prianto’s Green Lantern Corps #14, which follows the aftermath of DC’s recently concluded DC K.O. crisis event. The issue sees Guy Gardner imbued with newfound power after his participation in the tournament to claim the Heart of Apokolips. This power upgrade results in Gardner being worshipped as the Allsight on Oa. However, Guy-freaking-Gardner as a deity-like figure on Oa isn’t the only major change the planet is seeing. A new map reveals just how much Oa has changed after the last Green Lantern crossover event. Green Lantern's Oa Becomes Home to ALL Lantern Corps Comic Page Comes from Morgan Hampton's Green Lantern Corps #14 - Art by Fernando Pasarin Green Lantern Corps #14 reveals a brand-new map of Oa that was previously teased as a variant cover by Tom Derenick for Green Lantern Corps #10. The map revealed in GLC #14 is therefore the fully fleshed-out version of that variant cover, introducing far more detail than what was previously shown, and it is nothing short of epic. This map marks a bold new era for the various Lantern Corps of the DC Universe, showing Oa transformed from the Green Lanterns’ headquarters into a world where all the Corps can coexist. This new Oa is the result of a version of John Stewart sacrificing himself to defeat the Starbreaker Corps, with his sacrifice restoring the emotional spectrum. Related 10 Years Later, 1 of DC's Greatest Heroes From TV Is Back and Finally Canon It’s taken a decade, but a fan-favorite DC heroes has made the leap from animation to comic book canon in a development fans are going to love. Posts By Justin Epps As a result, all the power batteries are now on Oa, along with all the Lantern Corps settling on the planet and coexisting there, an epic and stark deviation from the typical lore. Historically, Oa has been portrayed as a mostly barren, artificial-looking planet dominated by the Guardians’ city and the Green Lantern Central Battery. Now, instead of being just a sterile headquarters, Oa has become a functioning planet with geography, multiple cities, and diverse biomes. It’s an epic change to the status quo. However, one question remains: how long will the various Lantern Corps live together in peace? Given the grudges between the different Corps, it seems unlikely they’ll all be able to live together forever. Still, hopefully this change to Green Lantern lore will be here for a while.
