Casio has recently brought in its new G-Shock GDB500 series to Malaysia. Also known as the 'Digital Basic' line-up, the new watch not only offers a new case

Casio has recently brought in its new G-Shock GDB500 series to Malaysia. Also known as the 'Digital Basic' line-up, the new watch not only offers a new case design, but also a built-in step counter with Bluetooth support - a feature that was previously exclusive to the sub-brand's GBA, GBD, and GG Mudmaster timepieces.

The G-Shock GDB500 employs a design that integrates its bezel, case, and band connectors. According to Casio, this approach is intended to not interfere with the back of the hand, therefore ensuring a nice and snug fit when worn. Its watch face is housed within an oblong and angular case, featuring a digital LCD display with a three-tiered layout.

As with most watches from the sub-brand, the G-Shock GDB500 utilises shock-resistant construction made from glass fibre-reinforced resin, which also enables for waterproofing at up to 200 metres. Despite its ruggedness, the model is touted to be one of the slimmest designs yet, and weighs at only 45g.

Apart from the usual digital watch features offerings, the new G-Shock comes with a built-in motion-sensing accelerometer that accurately tracks steps and displays them on screen. You can sync this data to your smartphone via Bluetooth, where you can view a detailed report of your progress through the Casio Connect mobile app. The latter also allows for seamless time correction.

Other features include a two-year battery life, and an auto LED backlight that allows you to see the watch face in the dark. Further, the watch arrives with an adjustable band that extends from 145mm to 200mm.The new G-Shock GDB500 series is available now, and is offered in white, black, and neon green colourways. The first two options are priced at RM595, while the third is retailing at RM635.
