An old strip mall in Round Rock will soon have a new purpose: to provide residents with more options for live entertainment.
ROUND ROCK, Texas — After Round Rock residents clamored for new entertainment options, changes will be coming to a strip mall in the city. City leaders asked residents what they wanted to see as part of Round Rock's 2030 comprehensive plan.
"We asked where they wanted to see our community go in next the 10 years," Sara Bustilloz, the city's communications and marketing director, said."There is a lot of requests for more entertainment, more performing arts."Williamson County approves agreement to bring new manufacturing facility north of Georgetown A new performing arts center will be located a few miles north of downtown, near Interstate 35, in the Rock Creek Plaza. The strip mall is being revitalized by Stanley Properties, and the area already includes a Kerbey Lane Cafe, VIA 313 and Tumble 22. "Developments where you can go now and essentially eat, have some dessert and go to a show," Bustilloz said.The new 6,400-square-foot venue will be operated by Penfold Theatre Company. The company has been around Central Texas for 16 years but has never had a permanent home. It's produced a lot of successful talent, including some who made it all the way to Broadway. "Seasonable and professional musicals along with other premiere performing artists from around the metro area, music and theatre and dance," Producing Artist Director Ryan Crowder said."The goal of moving into this venue is to keep it jam-packed 365 days with things to see things to do, of all different types we are excited to offer this to the city."
