It’s been nearly 35 years since the 10-year-old, from Bay Village, was kidnapped and murdered. A suspect has never been identified.
BAY VILLAGE , Ohio - New developments are coming to light in the Amy Mihaljevic case.A suspect has never been identified.“We’ve definitely found some male DNA on Amy’s sweatpants that we feel is promising and may result in identifying someone. We’re hopeful,” says Bay Village Detective Sergeant Jay Elish.Amy’s clothing has been resubmitted for testing twice over the past two years.
Her body was found four months later in a field in Ashland County, more than 50 miles away. A suspect has never been identified. Until this point, investigators had DNA from hairs they were working with, not the kind of DNA that can lead to just one suspect.“Nuclear DNA, what you’re seeing all these cold cases around the country, cold cases being solved with, we have that,” says Dt. Sgt. Elish.“We’ve been able to find more hairs that we’re going to test with more advanced DNA testing,” says Dt. Sgt. Elish.
