New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo has named Jacoby Brissett as the starting quarterback for the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Brissett beat out rookie Drake Maye, New England’s No. 3 overall pick, for the position. “We have decided, or I have decided, that Jacoby Brissett will be our starting quarterback this season,” Mayo said on Thursday . “In saying that, as an organization, we are 100% behind Jacoby.
We can’t go into the season saying, ‘He’s going to go “x” amount of weeks.’ As long as Jacoby is going out there performing the way we all have confidence in him doing, he’ll be our quarterback this season.” The Seattle Seahawks will face Brissett and the Patriots in Foxborough in Week 2. New England’s season opener in Cincinnati will be Brissett’s first start since Week 12 of the 2022 season versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he was a member of the Cleveland Browns.
