Sonia Sotomayor Elementary is the first addition to the district in two years

“You’ll see some apartments that haven’t yet even opened up, but that is how quickly our school is projected to grow in the next five years,” said principal Martha-Irene Garza, a Chula Vista native who previously was principal at Hazel Cook Elementary. Fifth-grader Aria Janus, who delivered the event’s opening remarks, said she looks forward to using the school’s newest technology, discovering her own interests and building community.The amphitheater at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School in Chula Vista on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Reyes said the school’s opening was a testament to two and a half years of hard work by the community.
