Biloxi Councilman Robert Deming III pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday afternoon to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.
So far, Deming has not indicated if or when he will leave office.GULFPORT, Miss. - This comes after Deming previously entered a not-guilty plea to four charges in September 2023.In the plea agreement, prosecutors asked District Court Judge Taylor McNeel to be bound to a sentencing guideline of 70 to 87 months with post-release supervision possible, rather than the standard sentencing guidelines of a maximum 20 years and $1 million fine.
During the plea change hearing Wednesday, Deming’s lawyer, Dub Hornsby, sought special exception to allow Deming to remain on bond until the August 13 sentencing. Hornsby argued that Deming is a practicing lawyer and still closing out cases for 40 clients that he represents and that he is also working with a certified public accountant to assess his taxes related to his business and pay any money he may owe to the federal government. Judge McNeel accepted the special exception.
