Charging documents claim that Zachary was seen on a surveillance camera dragging her through the backyard before continuing to attack her.
He then proceeded to sexually assault her until waste management employees intervened. When law enforcement arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m., officials said they tried for roughly an hour to coax Zachary out of his home with no success. After finally getting into the home, court documents claim it took around eight minutes to detain him. During the attempted arrest, Zachary was observed kicking and striking the canine "several times," according to an affidavit.
Two days after her death, authorities received a copy of her medical records, which showed she was suffering from several brain bleeds and other traumatic brain injuries. Conroy's death was ultimately ruled a homicide, and Zachary's attempted homicide charge was upgraded to murder.
