SAN ANTONIO - A new clinic On the North side Is making it easier for patients to access sexual health services.With a population of close to 1.5 million citizens, it's one of the biggest metropolitan areas in Texas.
"San Antonio does hold the third highest number of HIV cases in Texas; with Dallas and Houston being one and two, and the Austin being number four," Director of Community Health, Steven Tamayo said. "Some STIs don't show symptoms at all, and some do. So, the only way to know if you have an active infection is to get tested."
"It offers a path for introduction to some of our larger services," he explained. "So a patient might just come in for routine testing, but then end up having to test positive for an STI and then they have access to our treatment services." The report also shows Bexar County consistently ranked higher than state and national reports of syphilis. But hopefully, increased access to free care can change that.
