Since stepping into the role as acting Civic Center and Opera House director for the City of Dothan, Clay Dempsey has had a vision for the future.
"If you're from Dothan, right now is a good time to get excited about what's coming," director Dempsey said."My job here is to not think about me or tomorrow; I'm trying to do stuff 10 years down the road. You're talking about going to a new building, so it's a blessing to help create the groundwork for someone else to come in when my career is done and take things to a new level.
People are also reading… During his time as interim director, a role he assumed in March, Dempsey was crucial in getting notable acts such as Kevin Hart, KC and the Sunshine Band, Clint Black, Justin Moore, and Jim Breuer to perform at the Dothan Civic Center. A love for music is what led Dempsey to the position he's in today. Before working for the city, Dempsey worked as a bartender, worked at a record store as a teenager, and toured with a few bands before eventually leaving the area to work at the Philadelphia Film Festival until 2009.
Although booking these acts isn't easy, Dempsey already had relationships built with some promoters upon coming back to Dothan. He said his job now is to continue to feed those connections.
