After nearly a year of discussion, New Braunfels City Council voted to amend its drought management plan and allow new pools

has given its initial OK to easing the city's drought restrictions and allowing new swimming pools to be filled from the city's water supplies, even while Stage 3 restrictions are in place. City Council members are scheduled to vote Monday on final approval for the measure.

The vote comes after nearly a year of discussions between the city, builders and pool installers who were concerned about the economic impact of the pool ordinance. City staffers also cited that the drought management plan was implemented when New Braunfels Utilities had less diversification of its water sources. In addition to the Edwards Aquifer, the city utility also now pumps water from the Guadalupe River and purchases water from the city of Seguin.With Edwards Aquifer low and waterways drying up, more restrictions could be coming
