Hallie Turek is up against 15 other students from around the country in the memorization competition.

A 12-year-old from New Braunfels is taking a trip down memory lane next week as a finalist for this year’s National Memory Master Competition. Hallie Turek is one of 16 students in the Christian homeschool program Classical Conversations to make it to the nationwide memorization contest, according to the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung . Turek has achieved Memory Master status in her hometown six times, an honor given to students who can recite learning material from the school year by memory.

ON OUR RADAR: A midmorning update for local readers During the competition, students will be asked to recite a historical timeline as well as facts from each subject matter. Competitors who make it to the second round will craft a story from a set of facts and draw a world map from memory. Turek’s favorite subjects to study are history and science, but she also enjoys a well-rounded life outside of her academics.
